Every time there is a huge news coverage of somebody that has died 9 times out of 10 that’s the first time I’ve ever heard of that person. Does anyone else get this?

Take Christopher Hitchens for example. It’s on all the news websites and papers. I’ve seen it on blogs and tweets, but until this morning I had absolutely no idea that he existed. Am I then only one? I mean, I’ve not been under a rock for 27 years, I read, watch, listen and have been a right ‘auld media junkie at times. How, in all that time, has nothing gone “Neil, this is Christopher Hitchens”. 

Ok, Michael Jackson, I’ve heard of him. Columbo/Peter Falk, given, I knew him, he’s my hero. But most other times, I’m like, “Who?”. 

Oh and Steve Jobs, I’d heard of him. And Osama Bin Laden, he was quite well known. But APART from all those, oh and Amy Winehouse…..and Ryan Dunn. 

But APART from every single one of those extra ones I did actually know about. I don’t know who ANY of them are. Oh and Leslie Nielson.

What I’m trying to say is, I don’t know who Christopher Hitchens is.
